Welcome to Minneapolis!
Make the most of your downtime away from the conference. With its affable Midwest attitude, affordable prices, and abundance of activities that appeal to any lifestyle, Minneapolis is guaranteed to create lasting memories for those attending the 2018 Annual Conference & Expo and 91st Annual Meeting of the SME-MN Section.
From small café galleries to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minneapolis hosts a vibrant arts scene. Enjoy live music at First Avenue & 7th Street Entry (featured in Prince’s Purple Rain), or take in a play at the Guthrie Theater. If you’re an architecture enthusiast, allow yourself plenty of time to experience the Guthrie Theater’s incredible structural design!
The Mall of America is only 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. As one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world, the Mall features 520 stores, 50 restaurants, the nation’s largest indoor theme park, and attractions including Sea Life Aquarium, Bronson’s House of Comedy, and Nickelodeon Universe. Plus, there’s no sales tax on shoes or clothing!
The Great Outdoors
Minneapolis enjoys a hearty enthusiasm for outdoors events and activities (even in February). Tour the city by bike and enjoy the Farmers Market, historical tours, a different park every six blocks, or the “bike and brew” tour. Or move indoors and catch an exciting Timberwolves basketball game. Experience a thrilling hockey game with the Wild. How about both?
Cold weather is not an issue with the Minneapolis Skyway System. The Skyway is an interlinked collection of 9 miles of enclosed, climate-controlled footbridges linking buildings and full city blocks, and is the most extensive system of its kind in the world. The Skyway connects hotels, office buildings, restaurants, shopping and the Convention Center. You can have an amazing time in Minneapolis and not take a single step outside! Minneapolis has you covered.
