Mental Health and Suicide; You Are Not Alone
IdeaXchange Stage 1 – Booth 1156 | 12:30 PM – 12:45 PM
Jim “Tango” Gray, Check-6 Inc.
Industry is beset by disproportionate levels of suicide and mental health challenges. Like many environments where the consequences of error are high, and people tend to be ‘get-it-done’ operators, personal issues and mental health are not often prioritized by the hard-working folks that make their living there. I am not a doctor, or a therapist. I am a former soldier who paid a heavy price following a brutal tour in Sierra Leone in West Africa. I am a suicide survivor and long-term mental health patient. This is my story of recovery, of friends who have ended their lives, and why I believe we are still not good at recognizing mental health challenges let alone reaching out for help. If my story can help one person ask for help, that’s good enough.
